"Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass," DUMBO is a section of Brooklyn that takes in two neighborhoods - one between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, and another that continues east from the Manhattan Bridge to the Brooklyn neighborhood Vinegar Hill.

Now a historic district, DUMBO has emerged as a premier arts area, with galleries, a chocolate factory and other culinary businesses. Jerry Seinfeld once joked on a late-night talk show that the acronym actually stands for "Down Under Manhattan Bridge," but New Yorkers arbitrarily added the "O" because they didn't want to live in a neighborhood called "Dumb."
